It’s a beautiful spring morning here on Pomeroy Reserve and we have just been disturbed in
the office by a very familiar chirruping outside. Fairly certain of who was making the noise
we rushed outside and were delighted to see the return of our Lesser Striped Swallows.
Now we know spring is here. These delightful little birds winter much further north but it’s
such a delight not just to see them again but to marvel at how they manage to return every
year to the same nest. Repair work has started already on last year’s nest – you would think
they would want a bit of a holiday first! We have been seeing the European Swallows and
the Black Saw-Wings for a few weeks now so it’s wonderful to see another of our favourites
return.
