Last week we got the opportunity to purchase some Blue Wildebeest to add to our small herd here on Pomeroy Reserve. Our own herd needed some fresh and younger blood, particularly females. Four cows and three weaned youngsters were delivered from Vaalkrans on Wednesday.
The Wildebeest arrived very calm and unloaded from the transport quickly and quietly, although they did split up and head in opposite directions. They are in lovely condition and settling down well. Two of the cows and youngsters have chosen the middle section of the farm as their territory. The other wildebeest have finally joined up with our other females. It’s lovely to see that our two young bulls now have a herd each and we are looking forward to seeing how our herd now develops.
