Like so many other game reserves and farmers in the Eastern Cape, Pomeroy Reserve has
been suffering the effects of the current drought – and it’s not yet over, but oh it has been
so wonderful to have finally had some rain. 15mms early on this month softened the
ground but last Wednesday it started raining in the evening and continued into Thursday
accompanied by some amazing thunderstorms resulting in a total of 83mm. We now have
water in the dam that had been dry for weeks and there is water trickling through the
streams. All we need now is some warmth and then hopefully we’ll get new vegetation
growth for the game to feed on. Living here really makes you realise just how much life
depends on nature.
