It never ceases to amaze us that every walk or trip round Pomeroy Reserve can produce a sighting that can put a smile on your face. Whether it’s a bird not previously seen or a shy animal rarely spotted out in the open or just a family of warthogs behaving like little hooligans – it’s never boring! And so it was a great delight to spot a small clump of Strelizia reginae in flower by the far dam. It is obvious to see why these plants are also known as Bird of Paradise flower, just like the bird sharing the same name their colour and form is so eye-catching and pleasing to see. Strelitziaceae are part of the Crane Flower Family. They are robust plants similar in appearance to banana trees.
