Maintenance work is an ongoing task here on Pomeroy. The continued drought has made it especially important to ensure that the borehole pumps are working. The pump that supplies water for the animals on the top veldt and a local family living on the reserve is solar powered. At this time of year, with the short winter days, it only pumps for a limited number of hours a day so we rely heavily on it. We are so looking forward to reaching the shortest day of the year in a couple of days. Recently this pump stopped working. Reserve consultant Chris Pike was able to investigate the problem but it entailed the pump being sent away. A few days later it retuned with new bearings and thankfully is back at work. It’s quite amazing though just how quickly reservoir tanks and water troughs dry up when they are not being constantly fed. The animals are once again able to enjoy the lovely sweet water that this borehole provides. We are so lucky to have this access to water during the difficult drought that we are currently experiencing.
